Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Arts

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts offers students a comprehensive liberal arts education with the opportunity to concentrate in one of the following disciplines:

  • Dance

  • Music

  • Theatre

  • Visual Art

  • Multi-Disciplinary

Each concentration includes a core curriculum tailored to its respective discipline, alongside interdisciplinary coursework in other fine arts areas.

Major Requirements

Students must complete 42-48 semester credits, including:

  • 25-30 credits

    in the chosen concentration

  • 18 credits

    from three other fine arts disciplines (6 credits each)


Concentrations

Dance Concentration

The dance program focuses on developing technically proficient artists with a strong foundation in dance history, aesthetics, and creative production. Students engage in coursework and participate in faculty- and guest-choreographed performances throughout the academic year.

Course Requirements (24-30 SH)

Includes coursework in:

  • Ballet and Modern Dance Techniques

  • Repertory and Performance

  • Dance History

  • Anatomical Kinesiology

  • Dance Composition

  • Methods of Teaching Dance


Music Concentration

The music concentration covers applied music, music theory, and music history. Students work closely with advisors to tailor their studies to their individual interests and career goals.

Course Requirements (27 SH)

Includes coursework in:

  • Conducting

  • Fundamentals of Music

  • Intermediate Theory and Aural Communication

  • Private Instrument or Voice Instruction

  • History and Literature of Music

  • Elective Music Courses


Theatre Concentration

The theatre program offers a curriculum spanning performance and production, with opportunities for practical experience in theatre productions.

Course Requirements (25 SH)

Includes coursework in:

  • Acting

  • Performance Theory and Analysis

  • Theatre History

  • Dramatic Literature

  • Theatre Practicum

  • Electives in Technical Theatre, Directing, Design, Playwriting, and more


Visual Art Concentration

The visual art program focuses on two- and three-dimensional art practices, providing students with technical and conceptual skills in various mediums.

Course Requirements (25 SH)

Includes coursework in:

  • Design and Dimensional Design

  • Drawing and Painting

  • Art History

  • Electives in Sculpture, Ceramics, Photography, Graphic Communications, and more


Multi-Disciplinary Concentration

This concentration allows students to explore all fine arts disciplines, emphasizing artistic collaboration and creative exploration across multiple fields.

Course Requirements (48 SH)

  • 12 credits from Dance

  • 12 credits from Music

  • 12 credits from Theatre

  • 12 credits from Visual Art

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) Option

The B.F.A. is available for students seeking to become professional artists or pursue graduate studies. Admission to the B.F.A. program requires faculty approval and a senior project proposal submitted in the sophomore year.

B.F.A. Requirements

Students must complete 48-54 semester credits, including:

  • 42-48 credits in their concentration

  • 6 credits from senior project coursework

Senior Project Courses

  • Senior Project in Dance, Music, Theatre, or Visual Art

  • Fine Arts Senior Project I & II
